VC Inaugurates 13-Member Advisory Board for the College Of Education

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has inaugurated a new Advisory Board for the College of Education.

The 13-member Board, which is presided over by Nana Dwemoh Benneh, CEO of Universal Merchant Bank, is made up of individuals whose stature and experience in academia, industry, and business, will promote the development of the College. The Provost of the College of Education will receive counsel from the Board in ensuring that the College meets its goals.

The Board is entrusted with directing the College in the development of strategies based on current development perspectives and experiences from worldwide trends. It will additionally receive proposals from the College's school management committees to assist build effective linkages between the College and outside communities, uphold and strengthen the College's reputation, and provide advice on its relevance to promote sustainability.

Provost of the College of Education, Prof. Samuel Nii Ardey Codjoe provided a brief overview of the structure and objectives of the College of Education.

“The objectives of the College are to expose students to best practices in teaching and learning, using the latest proven learning technologies to support the utilisation of research both from teaching and learning. Secondly, to provide an expanded adult continuing and distance education programme which will extend the reach of the University students’ population to the face-to-face classroom learning. Thirdly, to improve understanding and practice of information and communication through effective teaching and learning research”, he said.

In inaugurating the Board, Prof. Amfo recognised the bold step taken by the University to adopt the collegiate system of governance. She conveyed her deepest gratitude to members of the Board for accepting to serve.

“The Chair and members of the College Advisory Board are regarded as strategic partners of the University in its aspirations to become a world class research intensive University by creating a culture that promotes research, teaching and learning driven by technology and anchored on humanism.”

Prof. Amfo also noted that the University aims to give the students the best experiences comparable to other top-notch universities around the world and also trusts that the Advisory Board will be supportive of the ideas.

She was optimistic that with support from the Board, the College of Education will positively impact how the University community teaches and conducts research.

The members took the Oath of Office and the Oath of Secrecy administered by Ms. Claudia Abbey, a Legal Officer at the Office of Legal Counsel.

Nana Dwemoh Benneh, Chairman of the Advisory Board, expressed his excitement about the task ahead and promised a good working relationship with members of the Board, to bring out the best of ideas in order to positively contribute to the growth of the College.

Members pledged to work very hard to support the objectives of the College of Education, and expressed confidence that given their varied backgrounds and experiences, they could work well together to enhance the country's educational system and produce graduates who can address problems.
